Shipyard To Storm
Dundalk was farmland until Bethlehem Steel bought it, and everything from the shape of the town to the water that reached it in 2003 still shows up behind the appliances in these houses.

1916: The Shipyard Buys The Land
Bethlehem Steel bought 1,000 acres of Dundalk farmland to house the workers at its shipyard, and the Dundalk Company planned the town. Refrigerators, dishwashers and automatic washers weren't standard in a plan that old, so each one in these houses was fitted in later, into a room first laid out for something else. A repair keeps the fit you already have.

1917: The First Houses Go Up
Two-story houses under steeply pitched roofs, finished in stucco and set on a street grid you could walk, filled in the plan from 1917. Where a dryer vents out through that stucco wall, the hole stays put, and repairing the dryer keeps it lined up with the vent. A new dryer with its outlet somewhere else can need a longer duct with more bends, and every extra bend slows the air and the drying.

1983: The Historic District Is Listed
The Dundalk Historic District joined the National Register of Historic Places. A house from the original plan has had a century of owners by now, and their kitchen and laundry changes are still sitting behind the appliances: a water line to the fridge, a gas line to the range and a duct behind the dryer that can each date from a different remodel. A kinked line or a crushed duct looks a lot like a failed part, so the tech checks what's behind the appliance as well as the appliance.

2003: Hurricane Isabel's Surge
Isabel came through on September 18 and 19, pushing a storm surge 5 to 9 feet above normal tides along Maryland's western shore of the Bay. The National Weather Service counted North Point, Edgemere, Millers Island and Turner Station among the places it hit hardest. Floodwater that gets inside a washer, dryer, range or freezer can reach the motor, the electronic controls and, on a gas dryer or range, the gas valve, and the outside can dry off and look fine while those parts are still wet or corroding.
If an appliance took water, leave it unplugged rather than switching it on to see whether it still runs, and don't relight or restart a gas dryer or range until the gas valve has been checked. Book a diagnostic visit, and the tech checks the motor, the controls and any gas valve before the appliance runs again.

We had appointment with Grabriel between 11 and 3pm, he finally arrives at 3:45pm. He was contracted by Midea to check out our dishwasher. After inspection he decided that the drain pump was defective, saying it several times in front of me and my partner, also saying it needs to be replaced or the dishwasher does. Then come find out that his report says it was improperly installed, even though he took it completely out and reinstalled it himself with the same E4 error message. We have received many different answers, one from the technician, one from Midea customer support, and one from Doctor maintenance support. It was installed correctly. This is just a copout so Midea can scam customers. Now we are stuck with a defective machine and no one will help us with an already damaged machine. Stay away from these guys and Midea.
The absolute WORST company to work with. A simple washing machine issue has turned into a month and a half of back and forth, and five visits from technicians who have no idea what they're doing. The issue is still not resolved, and phone operators play dumb each time they are called. Avoid working with them AT ALL COSTS if possible. The most unprofessional and frustrating company. Would rate them 0 stars if I could.
